CEJA’s Board of Directors Held its 63rd In-Person Meeting in Santiago, Chile

On April 24 and 25, 2025, the Board of Directors of the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) held its 63rd session at the institution’s headquarters in Santiago, Chile.

The JSCA Board of Directors is composed of Bruno A. Novoa Campos (President), Nadia Noemi Franco Bazan (Vice President), and members María Victoria Rivas, Benjamin Berger, Cecilia Barrios, Nicolás Soler, and Jose Suing Nagua. The Executive Secretary is Nataly Ponce Chauca, JSCA’s Executive Director.

The session was held in person with the main goal of following up on institutional management, reviewing the progress of projects and activities during the first quarter of 2025, and setting strategic thematic priorities to strengthen justice systems in the region.

Key issues addressed during the session included the selection process for the Executive Director for the 2026–2029 term, considering the current director’s decision not to renew her term. The methodology for selecting JSCA’s auditing firm for 2026 was also approved, and the financial report for the first quarter of 2025 was presented.

The Board of Directors decided to promote new general regulations for the institution’s operations. Additionally, it received reports from the working groups responsible for JSCA’s 25th-anniversary commemorative activities and the Board’s participation in JSCA events during the first quarter.

A major milestone of this session was the signing of a Cooperation Agreement with Guatemala’s National Commission for the Prevention of Torture, with the participation of Mr. Jonhathan Josue Mayorga and Mr. Emanuel Molina Castañeda, President and Executive Secretary of the Commission, respectively.

Simultaneously, Bruno Novoa, President of the Board of Directors, and Nataly Ponce, JSCA’s Executive Director, held a meeting with Ambassador Carla Serazzi, Director of the Division of Multilateral Affairs of Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, José Suing, President of the Judiciary of Ecuador and JSCA Board Member, met with Chilean Supreme Court Deputy President, Minister Andrea Muñoz.

Finally, the 63rd session offered the Board the opportunity to interact with JSCA’s professional team at our institutional offices. Organization of American States.
