Specialized Course on Investigating Corruption by Following the Money Concludes in Trinidad and Tobago

On April 21, the final session of the course “Investigating Corruption by Following the Money” was held at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Trinidad and Tobago, marking the conclusion of this specialized training in the country. 

The session brought together 20 prosecutors, who strengthened their capacities in the investigation and prosecution of corruption-related offences, with a particular focus on analyzing financial flows. 

The session was led by Hema Soondarsingh and included the participation of the Embassy of Germany in Trinidad and Tobago. Its Head of Culture, Ms. Jessica Cohoe highlighted the interest of Germany in strengthening capacities in justice institutions to combat corruption. 

The programme aimed to strenghten prosecutors and investigators with practical tools to enhance their effectiveness in investigating and prosecuting corruption-related crimes, particularly those involving the tracing of financial flows. 

The programme covered essential topics including: 

  • Understanding the phenomenon of corruption and its impact 
  • Techniques for tracing assets and financial flows 
  • Designing and structuring investigations focused on following the money 
  • The use of financial intelligence in criminal investigations 
  • International judicial cooperation and coordination with financial institutions

On April 17, the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) held the closing session of the course “Improving Criminal Prosecution in Cases of Gender-Based Violence in Trinidad and Tobago”, marking the completion of this specialized training programme.
