JSCA provides technical assistance to implement a digital prosecutor’s file for the Anti-Corruption Unit of Paraguay’s Public Prosecutor’s Office

From April 24 to 27, 2023, a specialized team from the Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) visited the city of Asunción in Paraguay to provide technical assistance to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of that country in order to implement the digital prosecutor’s file in the Specialized Unit for Economic Crimes and Anti-Corruption (UDEA).

The technical assistance provided by JSCA includes the preparation of a research study that will analyze different models of digital prosecutor’s folders in the Public Prosecutor’s Offices of the region and the design of a roadmap for the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Paraguay to move forward in the installation of the digital prosecutor’s folder that will contribute to the development of investigations and criminal prosecution of corruption cases.

This technical assistance is part of the agreement signed between JSCA and the CEJ (Judicial Studies Center of Paraguay) to collaborate with the Project to Strengthen the Specialized Unit for Economic Crimes and Anti-Corruption (UDEA) that USAID and CEJ are implementing in Paraguay.

During this first visit to Paraguay, JSCA technical assistance specialists held in-depth meetings with the prosecutorial units that make up the UDEA. The main working practices were identified and key opportunities for improvement were identified.

The Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) is an intergovernmental body of the Inter-American System with technical and operational autonomy, created by the OAS General Assembly in 1999, whose mission is to support the processes of reform and modernization of the systems justice in the Americas.

JSCA provides technical assistance to governments, judiciaries, public ministries and other justice institutions; prepares technical studies and generates empirical evidence; facilitates cooperation processes at the regional level; and provides specialized training to justice policymakers and operators in the countries of the Americas.
