All JSCA internships last a minimum of 3 months. Applications for longer term internships will be viewed favorably. Internships can be full time or part-time, with a minimum of 20 hours per week (over the course of 5 days, which will be agreed upon based on the availability of the interns and the institution).
Preference will be given to applications that include a research proposal related to the areas of focus of JSCA. They will be given a research advisor who can help them adjust the proposal and execute the research plan.
Selection Criteria
- Applicants must be students who have completed at least 8 semesters of university studies or young professionals in fields related to the issues that JSCA addresses (law, administration, communications, international relations, political science, sociology).
- Applicants must be available half time (20 hours per week) or full time (40 hours).
- Applicants must be proficient in Spanish.
What can I expect from an internship at JSCA?
- Certificate of completion.
- Performance evaluation.
- All interns will be included on the list that the Center publishes annually.
- Letter of recommendation based on the intern’s willingness to work, performance and initiative.
- The opportunity to remain connected to the Center as a professional depending on availability and ongoing projects.
- Interns will acquire work experience at an agency that is part of the Inter-American system and knowledge of civil and criminal justice reforms.
What does JSCA expect from interns?
- We expect our interns to be responsible and focused,
- to adapt to various tasks,
- to be proficient in English (not a requirement),
- to be willing to complete work beyond the tasks originally planned,
- problem solving skills,
- initiative and a proactive attitude,
- autonomy,
- honesty and team-work,
- advanced knowledge of civil and/or criminal law (in the case of law students or attorneys, not a requirement), and
- advanced knowledge of procedure law (in the case of law students or attorneys, not a requirement).

1.- Curriculum vitae- The CV may not exceed 2 pages and may not include a photograph. The document should be saved as: first and last names_Curriculum Vitae_Country.

2.- Letter of interest- The letter of interest may not exceed 1 page, and must outline the applicants’ interests, availability (full time or part time), and the desired duration of the internship. The document should be saved as: first and last names_Letter of Interest_Country.

3.- Research proposal- The research proposal must address topics related to judicial systems, access to justice, and JSCA’s other focus areas. (This element is optional but will be viewed favorably.) The document should be saved as: first and last names_Research Proposal_Country.
