For her part, <strong>KAS Regional Program Director Marie-Christine Fuchs<\/strong> notes that \u201cthe publication addresses a vital issue for the region and one that must be discussed at the comparative level.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Structure: Six Chapters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The research<\/strong>, which is empirical in nature, <strong>has been organized into six chapters.<\/strong> <strong>Chapters 1 and 2 <\/strong>describe the international context related to the protection of the rights of inmates and inter-American standards for detention conditions, respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-2-1-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"6273\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-2-1.png\" data-link=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/?attachment_id=6273\" class=\"wp-image-6273\"\/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-3-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"6274\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-3.png\" data-link=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/?attachment_id=6274\" class=\"wp-image-6274\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chapter 3<\/strong> addresses gender policies in the area of sentence execution and the work that has yet to be done in the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6275\" width=\"431\" height=\"431\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chapter 4,<\/strong> which emerged during the pandemic, analyzes the prison systems\u2019 reactions to the public health crisis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-5.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6276\" width=\"370\" height=\"370\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Chapter 5<\/strong>, the central axis of the research,<strong> presents country reports on Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.<\/strong> Various regional experts took part in the process of drafting the country reports.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6277\" width=\"405\" height=\"405\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, <strong>Chapter 6<\/strong> offers proposals for urgent general reforms and specific measures for improving prison systems and sentence execution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/sist-penitenciarios-7.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6278\" width=\"347\" height=\"347\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/biblioteca.cejamericas.org\/handle\/2015\/5678\">here<\/a> to download the publication.
