{"id":6061,"date":"2021-06-09T17:47:13","date_gmt":"2021-06-09T20:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/?p=6061"},"modified":"2025-12-05T16:52:15","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T16:52:15","slug":"jsca-and-ecuadorean-judiciary-council-sign-cooperation-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/en\/2021\/06\/09\/jsca-and-ecuadorean-judiciary-council-sign-cooperation-agreement\/","title":{"rendered":"JSCA and Ecuadorean Judiciary Council Sign Cooperation Agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/nota_ecuador2-1-1-1024x496.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6062\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>In addition, the entities held the seminar \u201cDialogue on Judicial Conduct and Ethics.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA)<\/strong> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.funcionjudicial.gob.ec\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ecuadorean Judiciary Council<\/strong><\/a> signed a <strong>cooperation agreement<\/strong> on Friday, June 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the <strong>cooperation agreement<\/strong> is to develop a joint work plan on justice, democracy and related topics that will create spaces for discussion and the exchange of experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JSCA Executive Director Jaime Arellano<\/strong> reiterated the institution\u2019s commitment to training the region\u2019s justice representatives so that their preparation will be increasingly transparent and connected to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are always assessing, studying and proposing multiple paths in order to ensure that every judge in Latin America has an appointment system based on profiles that are appropriate for each specific function,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ecuadorean Judiciary Council President and JSCA Board member Mar\u00eda del Carmen Maldonado S\u00e1nchez<\/strong> highlighted the importance of the agreement signed based on improved trust in justice, which in turn contributes to the strengthening of democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cDialogue on Judicial Conduct and Ethics\u201d<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the <strong>Cooperation Agreement<\/strong> was signed, the seminar \u201cDialogue on Judicial Conduct and Ethics\u201d took place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mar\u00eda del Carmen Maldonado S\u00e1nchez, the President of Ecuador\u2019s Judiciary Council<\/strong>, presented on \u201cChallenges in the Context of the JSCA-Ecuadorean Judiciary Council Agreement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JSCA Training Director Leonel Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong> presented a talk entitled \u201cThe Bangalore Principles as a Horizon for Technical Cooperation between JSCA and the Ecuadorean Judiciary Council.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, <strong>Cristina San Juan, a member of the judicial integrity team of the Global Program for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime,<\/strong> presented on \u201cJudicial Integrity as a Pillar for the Implementation of the Doha Declaration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>President of INECIP Argentina, Alberto Binder<\/strong>, discussed \u201cJudicial Government in Latin America: Overview and Perspectives.\u201d <strong>Mauricio Olave, the President of the National Judges\u2019 Association of Chile,<\/strong> presented the topic \u201cThe Importance of Judicial Government for Guaranteeing Judicial Independence: Lessons Learned Based on the Chilean Experience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, <strong>Iv\u00e1n Saquicela<\/strong>, the President of the <strong>National Court of Ecuador<\/strong>, presented \u201cJudicial Independence in Ecuador: Reality and Challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition, the entities held the seminar \u201cDialogue on Judicial Conduct and Ethics.\u201d The Justice Studies Center of the Americas (JSCA) and the Ecuadorean Judiciary Council signed a cooperation agreement on Friday, June 4.
