{"id":15798,"date":"2025-06-01T23:02:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T02:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/?p=15798"},"modified":"2025-12-05T11:46:52","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T11:46:52","slug":"ceja-launches-unprecedented-training-on-mental-health-access-to-justice-and-human-rights-with-a-focus-on-the-lgbtiqanb-population-in-chile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/en\/2025\/06\/01\/ceja-launches-unprecedented-training-on-mental-health-access-to-justice-and-human-rights-with-a-focus-on-the-lgbtiqanb-population-in-chile\/","title":{"rendered":"CEJA launches unprecedented training on mental health, access to justice, and human rights with a focus on the LGBTIQANB+ population in Chile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"630\">In partnership with the United Nations Special Fund of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture (OPCAT), the <strong data-start=\"321\" data-end=\"370\">Justice Studies Center of the Americas (CEJA)<\/strong>, together with the <strong data-start=\"390\" data-end=\"430\">Ministry of Health of Chile (MINSAL)<\/strong>, successfully concluded the implementation of the training program for public officials titled:<br data-start=\"526\" data-end=\"529\" \/><strong data-start=\"529\" data-end=\"630\">\u201cPromoting respect for the human rights of LGBTIQANB+ people as users of mental health services.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"630\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15800\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-30-at-12.29.53-2-1024x538.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"790\" height=\"415\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"632\" data-end=\"800\">The initiative was supported by the <strong data-start=\"668\" data-end=\"717\">Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT)<\/strong> and the <strong data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"799\">Undersecretariat for Human Rights of the Ministry of Justice of Chile<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"1072\">The program aimed to <strong data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"966\">strengthen the capacities of mental health personnel to ensure inclusive, dignified, and human rights\u2013based care for LGBTIQANB+ individuals<\/strong>, in line with CEJA\u2019s institutional commitment to person-centered justice with an intersectional approach.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"802\" data-end=\"1072\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15801\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-30-at-12.29.53-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"790\" height=\"593\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1074\" data-end=\"1704\">\n<p data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1704\"><em data-start=\"1076\" data-end=\"1627\">\u201cHealth and justice are deeply interconnected. Improving access to mental health is also ensuring access to justice. At CEJA, we understand that justice does not begin or end in the courts. The evidence is clear: health problems\u2014especially mental health\u2014aggravate legal vulnerabilities and drastically reduce the ability of people to exercise their rights. This bidirectional relationship compels us to rethink the boundaries of the justice system. That is why we work where the gaps are deepest, and where full access to justice has yet to arrive.\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"1627\" data-end=\"1630\" \/>\u2014 <strong data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1660\">Lorena Espinosa Olgu\u00edn<\/strong>, Director of Research and Training at CEJA.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1706\" data-end=\"1950\">In May, three in-person sessions marked the closing phase of the project. These were led by CEJA\u2019s team, headed by Espinosa, with the participation of expert <strong data-start=\"1864\" data-end=\"1888\">Andr\u00e9s Rivera Duarte<\/strong>, and researchers <strong data-start=\"1906\" data-end=\"1925\">Yasna Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1930\" data-end=\"1949\">Camille Vasquez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1706\" data-end=\"1950\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-15802\" src=\"https:\/\/cejamericas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-05-30-at-12.41.55-1024x625.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"790\" height=\"482\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1952\" data-end=\"1982\">Key closing activities:<\/h3>\n<ul data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2908\">\n<li data-start=\"1984\" data-end=\"2305\">\n<p data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"2305\"><strong data-start=\"1986\" data-end=\"1996\">May 15<\/strong>: Final workshop of the first course cohort, held for mental health officials from the Metropolitan Region. Attendees included:<br data-start=\"2123\" data-end=\"2126\" \/>\ud83d\udfe3 <em data-start=\"2131\" data-end=\"2146\">Carla Moscoso<\/em>, Acting Undersecretary of Human Rights;<br data-start=\"2186\" data-end=\"2189\" \/>\ud83d\udfe3 <em data-start=\"2194\" data-end=\"2207\">Paula Araya<\/em>, Head of the Human Rights and Gender Department at MINSAL;<br data-start=\"2266\" data-end=\"2269\" \/>\ud83d\udfe3 <em data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2292\">Yamileth Granizo<\/em>, CPT expert.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2307\" data-end=\"2595\">\n<p data-start=\"2309\" data-end=\"2595\"><strong data-start=\"2309\" data-end=\"2319\">May 20<\/strong>: <em data-start=\"2321\" data-end=\"2352\">Training of Trainers Workshop<\/em>, with 17 professionals who will serve as tutors in future editions of the course.
